The night that pays for itself
Start with the arithmetic, because it is the part no listing explains. The Petra Archaeological Park charges 50 JD for a one-day ticket if you are spending at least one night in Jordan, and 90 JD if you are not. The rule is about where you sleep, not about what you see.
Which means a traveller who flies into Amman, takes a day trip to Petra and flies out the same evening pays 40 JD more at the gate than a traveller on this two-day run — for a shorter visit. Set that 40 JD against the difference in fare and the second day costs far less than the price tag suggests. You also get the camp, the meals, the jeep and the Dead Sea for what is left.
Everything else about the trip follows from the same decision. Five hours at Petra instead of three or four, because you are not driving back the same night. A desert run at dusk rather than at midday. And a second morning that starts in Wadi Rum instead of in Amman traffic.

The small-group grade states a 06:30 pickup with a thirty-minute allowance while it collects everybody, so be downstairs early on day one. The private grade sets its own time with you.

Where the two days begin and end
Day one starts at your Amman hotel. On the small-group grade the pickup window is 06:30 with up to half an hour while the van collects the rest of the party; on the private grade you set the time. Both run south on the Desert Highway.
Night one is in Wadi Rum, at the camp the operator uses. Day two ends back at your Amman hotel after the Dead Sea, which means a late return — leave the evening free.
Know before you go
- Be downstairs at 06:25 on the small-group grade. The 06:30 pickup is the tightest timing on this trip.
- Bring warm clothes for the camp. Wadi Rum drops sharply once the sun goes, in every month of the year.
- Pack an overnight bag, not a suitcase. You are carrying it into a tent, not a hotel room.
- Budget 50 JD for the Petra gate, or arrive with a Jordan Pass that covers it along with Wadi Rum.
- Keep cash for the Dead Sea. Where the resort charge is not in your grade it is paid on the spot, and usually in cash.
- Do not put anything Dead Sea water touches near your eyes. Rinse under the resort showers before you dress.
